Duty-Free Measures with Mainland China Extend to Cover All Ports
The Hong Kong central government’s policy to raise its duty-free allowance has now expanded to include all entry ports. Previously, it was for Mainland residents who wanted to come to Hong Kong.
Mainland visitors have well received the new measures as they enhanced their shopping experience. Other benefits that these new measures will bring include stimulating Hong Kong’s retail sector and supporting diverse tourism growth.
The duty-free measures were implemented on 1 July across six land ports. The new duty-free luggage allowance is RMB12,000 (previously RMB3,000) for items that are purchased at the port entry duty-free shops.
Promotional Materials At Port
Promotional materials have been placed across the various ports to help promote and bring awareness to this policy. Incoming mainland visitors will also receive an SMS notification about these initiatives.
Summer Chill Hong Kong
The Summer Chill Hong Kong event launched on 11 July, an initiative by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) to support the travel and retail sectors. As part of this event, 500,000 Summer Triple Rewards packages were given to overnight visitors. These rewards include discounts for transportation, sightseeing, and dining.
The Hong Kong government is making an effort to support both the local travel and retail sectors by organising more promotional activities to attract overnight visitors to boost their spending.
