Empowering SMEs at the SME ReachOut Tech+ SME Sourcing Fair 2023
The SME ReachOut: Tech+ SME Sourcing Fair 2023 opened with Mr Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, showing his support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The event marks a significant step in enhancing their technological capabilities and competitiveness. It’s the flagship event of the revamped SME ReachOut.
Mr. Yau announced that the Hong Kong SAR Government has allocated $100 million over five years to enhance SME ReachOut’s services. These improvements have already begun this month, featuring more robust support for SMEs in securing government funding and building their capacities.
Benefits of the Sourcing Fair
The value of the sourcing fair lies in providing market insights to SMEs. It helps them discover solutions for their unique business requirements. During the fair, Mr. Yau advised attendees from the trade sector to take full advantage of these government-backed initiatives.
Boosting Support for SMEs
The Productivity Council, with government support, manages SME ReachOut to aid SMEs in navigating government funding schemes and addressing application-related queries. The initiative has been active since January 2020.
In line with the commitment to enhancing services, there are plans to expand offerings, such as increased outreach to trade and industrial organizations, co-working spaces, and commercial and industrial buildings. This expansion aims to strengthen the ability to handle inquiries and offer free one-on-one consultation sessions.
Comprehensive Assistance for Growth
The future includes capacity-building services like one-on-one consultations for technology and business expertise, networking events, and annual SME sourcing fairs. The Productivity Council is dedicated to supporting SMEs through holistic assistance and resources.
